The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is an exciting new programme to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee led by its Patron HRH The Prince William of Wales.  It is a landmark project to create a permanent, tangible and relevant legacy from the two major events scheduled to occur in the UK in 2012; Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.  Further information available in the Open and Green Space section of the A-Z of Advice and Information.

Welcome

The Hampshire Association of Local Councils Ltd (the ALC) is an independent membership organisation serving and representing the interests of local councils across Hampshire.

The ALC was founded in 1948 when local government reforms began after the Second World War. For over sixty years now, the ALC has provided advice, representation, networking, services and support to member councils and parish meetings, assisted by its primary partner Hampshire County Council.  The ALC is owned and governed by its members.

The ALC is affiliated to the National Association of Local Councils and works closely with like-minded county associations including Suffolk, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire.

The ninth President of the ALC is Professor Gerry Stoker, Professor of Politics and Government at Southampton University, and Director of the Centre for Citizenship, Globalisation and Governance.

There are currently 261 parish and town councils across Hampshire, including 22 parish meetings.  A total of 254 (includign 2 affiliates) are currently in membership representing nearly 600,000 residents across Hampshire.

Did you know?  Our 2010 Survey has shown that currently one in three parish councillors is female, but less than one in ten is under the age of forty.  The full analysis is in the Summer 2010 Edition of Local Council News.
